A 500-year-old inn with food at the heart of everything, The Angel was among the first pubs to break away from the chips-with-everything mentality back in the 1980s. It remains a dining destination to this day. The creeper-covered building is home to a Bar Brasserie and a smart restaurant with linen-clad tables and pretty, country-style decor. The kitchen offers a gently contemporary repertoire including butternut squash and sage risotto to start, followed perhaps by pan-roasted haunch of venison with celeriac remoulade and suet pudding filled with wild mushrooms. Finish with blackberry mousse with white chocolate and tarragon ice cream.
