In a pretty village a short walk to the sea, this Victorian inn's restaurant occupies a converted barn, given a sleek modern look within flint walls and oak ceiling trusses. The kitchen's a hive of industry, making everything on the premises, from excellent breads to ice creams. Confit pork belly with sweet potato mousse, baked beans and apple and cider purée is a nicely balanced starter, while smoked ham hock rillettes and beetroot jam add depth to a main course of pavé of cod with roast ratte potatoes and mushrooms. Puddings seem to consist of trios, among them maybe vanilla pannacotta with apple fritters and white chocolate buttons.
