Beyond the hotel's magnificent pillared façade is a palatial interior of marble floors, oak panelling and elaborate plaster ceilings, all sharpened with stylish contemporary flair. The SGH Bistro is the setting for the kitchen's appealing repertoire of uncomplicated, up-to-date cooking. Clearly defined flavours leap out from every skilfully rendered dish, be it wild mushroom and tarragon soup served with herb crème frâiche, or a main course of slow-cooked pork belly, Suffolk pork sausage cassoulet and buttered kale. To finish, perhaps vanilla pannacotta, sticky pear and pear sorbet would fit the bill.
