Tucked down an alley off Chancery Lane, Andrew Dargue and Donna Conroy's slick restaurant is a million miles from the lentil bake school of vegetarianism. Muted contemporary colours blend with dark floorboards, antique framed photos and rustic pine tables, and what arrives on the plate lives up to the setting: innovative dishes combining quality ingredients with up-to-the-minute technique. Pumpkin and yeast terrine comes with cinder toffee and mulled pumpkin to start, before salted ash-baked celeriac and sea-beet with broccoli and yogurt curd, and the creativity is maintained with desserts like white chocolate and cep custard with tarragon cream cheese and toasted meringue.
