Named after the Dickensian courtyard where 17th-century 'It girl' Lady Elizabeth Hatton was killed by her jealous lover, this intimate cellar restaurant has atmosphere in spades, making it a hot spot for business lunches and romantic dinners. The kitchen deals in hearty Anglo-French fare built on sound British produce. Start with smoked loin of venison with wine-poached apricot, black pudding beignet and toasted hazelnuts, followed by roast rump of Suffolk lamb matched with caramelised root vegetables, buttery pommes mousseline, green pepper salsa and rosemary jus, or classic lemon sole meunière with caper and parsley new potatoes. To finish, there’s the indulgence of chocolate délice with mascarpone and honeycomb.Discreet and romantic Hatton Garden favourite.
