A handsome, low-lit art deco room with lustrous panelling, antiqued mirrors, chandeliers and velvet banquettes, the Savoy's iconic Grill has always been the place to see and be seen. Built on classic Anglo-French foundations, the cooking aims for comfort – a glazed omelette Arnold Bennett from the Escoffier-inspired menu, say, or chicken liver parfait with carrot pickle, grapes and walnuts, followed by Cumbrian cottage pie with cheddar mash and horseradish. Elsewhere, there are 'roasts, braises and pies', the fish and shellfish section might offer lobster thermidor, while a 38-day aged côte de boeuf fits the bill for main course. Dessert brings dark chocolate mousse with polenta shortbread, and a heavyweight wine list raises the bill skywards.
