Perched on top of the Conran store, Orrery displays a similar penchant for clean-lined contemporary design. A stalwart of the Marylebone dining scene, it still cuts a dash with its classy good looks, polished service and skilful, modern take on classical French cuisine. Refurbished in 2018, it’s a stylish space, lit by a full-length skylight and arched windows giving leafy views over Marylebone church gardens; a roof terrace adds further to its appeal. Igor Tymchyschyn’s refined classic and modern French dishes exercise a powerful pull too, taking in a flavour-packed seafood raviolo in lobster bisque as a luscious way in, or perhaps cured sea bass with cucumber, horseradish and kumquat. Alluring main courses are similarly well conceived and beautifully presented, as seen in poached salmon with mushroom purée, crisp polenta and watercress velouté, or perhaps a classic idea such as tournedos Rossini with celeriac and sauce périgourdine. To conclude, the sweet delights of white chocolate and elderflower mousse are balanced with poached peach, sorbet and coulis, but the pungently ripened cheese trolley is worth exploring before you get there.
