European bistro dishes chez Atherton

There are almost too many Jason Atherton venues to count now in London, so it helps when they cluster together a little, as here. The Little Social is just across the road from Pollen Street Social in its twisty back lane near Regent Street. What you get here is the bistro experience, in a dark-panelled setting with vintage Michelin posters and a vivacious pop soundtrack. Canonical dishes from the European repertoire are cooked with brio on a menu that furnishes plenty of choice. Ritz it up by starting off with copiously garnished black truffle risotto, or go the more austere route with a serving of grilled calçots in romesco dressing. Main courses are built to last, with whole Dovers roasted on the bone and slicked with meunière, cote de porc bulked with charcuterie and a pillow of mash, or aged Hereford rib-eyes arriving still asizzle from the Josper charcoal grill. Desserts are from the puddingy end of the continuum – apple and blackberry crumble, sticky toffee, clementine Pavlova with passionfruit sorbet – unless La Fromagerie's finest tempt you to a cheese finale.
