The Cod is a proper pub with real ales at the pumps, red leather stools and a wee terrace for supping outside. It's also a dining address with cosy booths, pretty banquettes and interesting wallpapers, plus private rooms upstairs. The menu offers globally-inspired stuff such as salt-and-pepper squid fired up with green chillies and sweet and salty nuoc cham dip, alongside leek and mushroom pie or a salad of heritage squash with whipped goats' cheese. Steaks are cooked on the grill - sirloin on the bone, for example - and come with traditional accompaniments, while desserts run to classic sticky toffee pudding.
