An art deco gem, The Midland was built by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1933 in the 'streamline modern' style. There's a sharp modernity to the restaurant that suits the space, with a contemporary finish and neat white tablecloths to ensure everything is right and proper. Likewise, the menu meets contemporary expectations with its focus on regional ingredients and fashionable flavour combinations. Scallops are served with cauliflower purée, crispy bacon and pistachio crumb, and main courses are big on the feel-good factor. Try slow-cooked blade of beef, rib-eye steak, or poached plaice with ham fritter and red wine syrup. Finish with dark chocolate and rosewater cheesecake.
