The Hampshire Hotel has a contemporary restaurant sporting a colonial look with rattan chairs, ceiling fans and pot plants. Among starters, seared scallops (local ones from Bouley Bay, cooked just right) come with spring pea purée and wild rock samphire, or there might be local mussels cooked à la crème. Rack of spring lamb combines with minted and crushed Jersey Royals and wild garlic pesto in a winning combination, and wild duck (breast and confit leg) arrive in the creative company of a red cabbage mousse. There are simple steak options, too, and a terrific value daily menu, with desserts running to the likes of sticky toffee pudding.
