The interiors of this 1840s property are all lush Victorian rococo, with mouldings sporting cherubs and walls of oak panelling in what are now the bar and dining room. The best of local materials - scallops, crab, pork, rabbit - are the kitchen's stock-in-trade, with the menus squarely in the modern British mainstream. Those scallops turn up pan-fried and served with dhal, apple and coriander cress before roast fillet of sea bass with shellfish ravioli, a salsify emulsion and vegetables, or perhaps stuffed roast saddle of lamb with mushroom cassoulet and baby root vegetables. End on a traditional note with rice pudding with red berries and sorbet.
