A splendid stately hotel, equipped with spa and wedding facilities, with dining divided among conservatory, brasserie and restaurant, depending on your preferred style. The last is a glamorous, high-ceilinged setting for modern cooking of great vigour. Crab tian with avocado, pink grapefruit and lemon purée brings new pizazz to an old classic, or there may be potted salt beef with a crisp-cooked quail's egg and horseradish crème fraîche. Main courses partner grilled trout with lobster linguini and seafood broth, while honey-roast duck comes with braised red cabbage and truffled chive mash. Desserts won't lack for takers when there's chocolate truffle and pistachio ice cream on offer.
