The Chowns' restaurant with rooms has been a fixture of the northwest Wales dining scene since the 1980s. The dining room is a fresh, airy space with mint-green walls hung with artworks, a barewood floor and elegant high-backed chairs. A fine smoked haddock tart with lemon-dressed fennel and watercress salad is an appealing opener, its pastry excellent, the filling beautifully balanced. Main courses might deliver sea bass in the Asian style, with crab, ginger and pak choi in lemongrass sauce. A satisfying chocolate trio to finish comprises dark mousse, a chocolate-pastried tart and a quenelle of white chocolate ice cream.
