Heartwarming French bistro fare in an old timbered house

Occupying a 500-year-old timbered building in Betjeman's suburban Metro-Land, the decor is intimate and rather romantic, with a low-beamed ceiling and contemporary black seats at linen-clothed tables. Still going strong after 25 years in business, Friends’ devoted local fan base turns up for top-grade meat and fish handled with skill and sound modern thinking. Seared scallops with parsnip purée, black pudding crumble, crispy bacon and truffle foam opens strongly, then cod supreme is boosted by steamed spinach, poached egg, mussels, caviar and saffron sauce. A delightful summery finale brings yoghurt parfait with pistachio crumble, meringue and fresh strawberry with basil & lime.
