A Glaswegian institution since the 1960s, there's a smart modern feel to this restaurant's colour scheme, with leather seating, linen-clad tables and friendly and knowledgeable service. The extensive menu explores familiar regional variations, taking in old favourites from the madras, vindaloo and bhuna stables, but there are plenty of intriguing new ideas. Lamb karahi is full of tender meat and vibrant, complex flavours, strong chilli heat as well as sweetly caramelised onion, coriander seed and garlic, and might be the follow-up to generously packed chicken pakoras in gram flour batter with raita and chutney, or prawns in garlic butter with pineapple. Finish with stickily satisfying gulab jamon in cardamom syrup.
