Down an alley off the main street, this one-time scullery of a 17th-century Temperance hotel has been a popular destination since 1981. With red-painted walls and linen-clad tables, it's an intimate space run with charm and enthusiasm. Concise handwritten menus showcase produce from the garden and wild mushrooms from local woods. Dishes are packed with flavour, the ingredients given room to shine. Typical examples are well-timed halibut with lobster in a buttery leek sauce to start, then roast saddle, confit shoulder and sautéed kidneys of local lamb on ratatouille in a strong stock reduction. Mirabelle plum tart with raspberry ripple ice cream makes a satisfying finale.
