The Sun is a 15th-century village inn with open fires, doughty timbers and panelling. Its culinary leanings are distinctly Mediterranean, with the kitchen turning fresh produce and quality Italian ingredients such as cured meats, cheeses and oils into uncomplicated, well-executed dishes. The menu opens with antipasti, with starters ranging from game terrine with date chutney and chicory and pomegranate salad, to crab crostini with pickled samphire, dill and crème fraîche. A pasta option may be orecchiette with duck ragù and ricotta salata. Main courses are along the lines of hake fillet with pancetta, spinach and girolles and puddings such as prosecco jelly with elderflower cream and raspberry granita.
