This large, bustling brasserie-style restaurant is within The Balmoral Hotel. A cool, modern vibe is created by walnut flooring, darkwood tables and a colour scheme of lime green and heather, while a mirror-lined wall reflects the light. Scottish classics range from haggis, neeps and tatties to whisky pannacotta. Pork belly with a scallop on a bed of tapenade is a masterly starter, and might be followed by a relatively simple main course of golden-skinned seared sea bream fillet on braised chicory with ratatouille. Sourdough bread is so good as to be moreish, and puddings run to visually attractive lemon meringue pie with grapefruit sorbet, crushed pistachios and an orange tuile.
