Wines by the glass

Among the original building materials of the 16th-century Village Inn are timbers from ships of the Spanish Armada wrecked off the Devon coast. Waste not, want not. It's all been sensitively spruced up in today's country pub style, with plenty of light wood, a glassed-fronted log burner, and an outdoor dining space by the pool. Menus blend sound tradition, offering local crackled pork belly and a signature fish pie among mains, with a seam of modernism that takes in cumin-scented butternut soup, and pasta such as goats' cheese and cranberry tortellini with pak choi and parmesan cream. Lemon drizzle cake with caramelised figs and port syrup happens to be gluten-free.
