The Coach House restaurant at the Grange was once just that – a 17th-century edifice a short scrunch across the gravel from the hotel – and is kitted out with rustic-chic oak tables, banquette seating and contemporary artworks. Ingredients are sourced from nearby, including crabs from Lundy and ducks from the farm next door. A first course of langoustine ravioli comes with sauce vièrge, lovage and celery salt, as a prelude to roast Exmoor venison, parsnip, pancetta and red wine jus, or Cornish cod, scallop, leeks, truffle and chive beurre blanc. The cheeseboard flies the flag for Devon, while desserts run to pistachio soufflé, dark chocolate sauce and pistachio ice cream.
