This elegant boutique hotel exudes character, with stunning garden views at the front, bucket chairs in twisted wicker at solid darkwood tables, and attractive soft furnishings in both dining rooms. After a swig of truffled wild garlic and nettle soup, it's on with a beautifully rendered dish of shellfish in a Thai broth of chilli, lime, ginger, lemongrass and coconut. Crackly-skinned duck makes a majestic main, served with well-seasoned dauphinoise in Merlot jus, while fish might be grilled turbot on a potato and chive cake in lime hollandaise. Dessert may be cardamom pannacotta with gingered rhubarb syrup and sorbet, or crème brûlée with blood orange and rosé wine jelly.
