Convincing brasserie food from the Tanner brothers

The Plymouth Gin distillery is home to the Tanner brothers' vibrant restaurant, and entering past the huge vats gives a reminder of the esteemed history of the building. The Barbican Kitchen, recently completely refurbished, spreads over two floors and packs a visual punch with its bold colours and contemporary prints. The menu is a feel-good foray into contemporary tastes with a West Country flavour. There are burgers and steaks alongside the likes of seared calves' liver with horseradish mash and confit onion. Start with fried duck egg with crispy confit duck, and finish with crème brûlée with chocolate chip cookie.
