Wines by the glass

This grand red-brick house in 14 acres of countryside is home to the charming and gently contemporary Oscar's restaurant. There's nothing stuffy about the place, with a relaxed (but professional) approach all round. The kitchen turns out modern dishes based on a good amount of regional produce. Gravad lax is a simple enough starter, but here it is perked up with an oyster beignet, pickled beetroot and basil crème fraîche, while main-course cannon of lamb is tender and full of flavour. Finish with a decent version of tarte Tatin with home-made fig ice cream and cinnamon syrup. There's a stylish cocktail bar, too.
