There's a traditional bar with real ales and blackboard menus and a charming restaurant with chandeliers at this 16th-century coaching inn with a castellated tower. The kitchen sources its materials from within the county and serves bright, modern ideas with their roots in the classics. The menu could kick off with open ravioli of chicken livers with gremolata and prosciutto, or goats’ cheese roulade with candied beetroot. Equally well conceived are main courses: perhaps confit pork belly served with pea and ham cannelloni and wild garlic and clam sauce; or monkfish and lobster risotto with wild garlic crisps. End with warm Bakewell tart with pistachio ice cream.
