If you're ambling the town's narrow streets of crooked houses and shops tumbling towards the River Fowey estuary, look out for this handsome Victorian hotel. Its restaurant Spinnakers basks in those splendid briny vistas, while the kitchen delivers simple classic combinations. Fowey mussels in a creamy, saffron-infused fricassée with celeriac and tomato sets the ball rolling, followed by a three-way serving of West Country lamb, comprising seared loin, rolled breast and sweetbreads in the company of fondant potato, wilted greens, carrot purée, purple sprouting broccoli and a mint and balsamic jus. To finish, a correctly wobbly yogurt pannacotta is matched with poached rhubarb and its jelly, and orange syrup.
