Wines by the glass

Run by the same family for the past decade, this striking 1920s building near the beach at Hayle has all the trappings of the small country manor house. A large sitting area and centrally situated bar lead on to the rear restaurant with its views of the hotel’s lovely gardens. The modern British cooking is delivered with confidence and prime local ingredients are allowed to shine. An attention-seeking opener of beef fillet, wild mushrooms, red onion and ox cheek dashi might be followed by Cornish monkfish, winter brassicas, fondant potato and Davidstow cheddar. To finish, apple tart is served with crème brûlée ice cream and cider caramel.
