Perched on a blustery clifftop on the Lizard, Housel Bay is a late Victorian hotel that retains a generous complement of original features. The walls are crowded with pictures and ephemera and the kitchen does its bit with a modern British repertoire. Try a full-flavoured first course of oxtail ravioli with mushrooms and spinach, dressed in truffle oil and parmesan, or seared haddock with crayfish, pea purée and an underpowered beurre blanc. There may be slow-cooked shoulder of lamb with Greek salad, plus plenty of vegetarian choices, and to finish, orange and passionfruit tart, classic tiramisù, or a slate of regional cheeses.
