Crowd-pleasing modern pub dining

Wines by the glass

Looking smart after a recent spruce up, The Pheasant's wide-ranging menu features a healthy showing of local produce and pleases both traditionalists seeking pub classics done well (home-made pies and gravy, or beer-battered haddock and chunky chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce, say) or those looking for more contemporary ideas. These include crispy ox cheek with celeriac and horseradish remoulade, candied beetroot and smoked bacon, ahead of pheasant 'saltimbocca' with sauerkraut, sweetcorn, and apple and sage fritters. Desserts deliver comfort in the form of sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and rum and raisin ice cream, or creamy rice pudding with lavender shortbread and blackberry jam.
