A large, modern hotel at the edge of town, Cottons' menu is an appealing Mediterranean brasserie-style package. Start with lemon and black pepper queenie scallops with chilli mayonnaise; chicken liver parfait, Armagnac prunes, baby leeks, pickled mushrooms and toasted brioche. Follow on with a hand-stretched, stone-baked pizza – perhaps, rustica picante with spicy sausage, salami, peperoni and greens, or tiger prawn and Calabrian Nduja sausage, tomato and parsley linguine. For afters, buttermilk pannacotta, raspberries and Lemoncello, or for something a little more English, sticky toffee pudding, vanilla ice cream and hot butterscotch sauce.
