The interior of this 17th-century inn has a contemporary sheen while retaining its soul, with a lounge bar serving real ales and a cosy snug as well as a smart restaurant. Expect classy pub classics and sandwiches in the bar (or garden), while the restaurant ups the ante with the likes of beetroot-cured sea trout with a beetroot salad, or Welsh rarebit with a salad of apple, walnut and watercress. Main courses range from fillet of hake with fennel and potato purée, olives, almonds and crab bisque, to breast of Cotswold chicken with creamed savoy cabbage, mushrooms and mash, while among puddings may be apricot and pistachio pannacotta.
