In the tranquil rural location of the Ouzel Valley Park, the Grade II listed white building has been made over in a slick boutique style. Simply laid, unclothed tables and a wall papered as a trompe l'oeil library set the tone in the restaurant, where the kitchen delivers confidently rendered favourites with a modern spin. One visually attractive starter is cured salmon with fennel, orange, rye crisps and dill crème fraîche, all elements complementing each other. Excellently timed corn-fed chicken is an impressive main course, served with gnocchi, peas and chicken jus, and to finish there might be burnt cream with mixed berries.
