On the southern tip of Mull where ferries leave for Iona, John and Carla Lamont's pocket-sized restaurant is about as remote as they come. The dinner-only affair seats just 18 lucky diners, who can expect skilfully cooked menus full of inventive ideas. To start, langoustine and crab won ton dumplings come in a spicy Thai-style coconut milk and kaffir lime broth, while pan-fried sea bream is partnered creatively by a deep-fried courgette blossom stuffed with fish and sea urchin. Elsewhere, crab and smoked Applewood cheese are united in a soufflé-style cheesecake, and to finish, blackberries from the croft turn up in a dark chocolate tart with bramble jelly and semi-freddo.
