The Cock & Bull is a low-slung establishment full of 19th-century character with wooden beams and real fires, but there's nothing stuck in the past about this gastro-pub: modern food and local artworks ensure that. Eat in the conservatory dining room, cosy lounge in front of the fire, or the main restaurant, where there's an all-day menu of enticing, up-to-date ideas. Try scallops with sweetcorn and coriander salsa, followed by slow-cooked pork belly with Stornoway Black Pudding, burnt apple purée, and Granny Smith apple and spinach salad. For dessert, go for dark chocolate mousse with honeycomb ice cream.
