Built in 1881, Norwood is a magnificent Victorian mansion with all of its period grandeur – stained glass, grand fireplaces, oak panels - still present and correct. The restaurant is a suitably baronial oak-panelled room hung with tapestries, while cuisine is contemporary with a strong Scottish element, as seen in a robust starter of rabbit and haggis supported by peas, camomile, cabbage, and turnip purée. Prime ingredients are carefully handled in a complex main course comprising pork belly, cockles and black pudding, together with Jerusalem artichoke, pecans, Cox’s apple and samphire. Finally, rhubarb gets a textural workout alongside lemon balm, ginger and pistachio.
