Attractive village inn with interesting heritage

At a glance

Kids play area
Dog friendly

Haunted by the mischievous ghost of a murderous ploughman, this village-centre pub in the northern Welsh Marches is an engaging mix of old and new. Lots of beams, trusses and wooden flooring offer great character within, melding seamlessly with tasteful decor, countless prints and framed ephemera amidst eclectic furnishings. The regularly changing fare has much for seafood fans, a good vegetarian choice and may feature meaty mains like cottage pie or a fillet steak; platters and bar nibbles prove popular too. An impressive wine list shows 16 by the glass. Dogs are very welcome in the bar, and outside is an immense, tree-shaded beer garden. A change of hands.
