Dating from the 16th century this is a pub which values its beer-drinking customers. The low-ceilinged, wooden-floored bar offers a good choice of regional beers served from the cask and is the hub of local life (although, sorry, it's not for the under-10s). The seasonal menu may be small, but it sure offers diversity: for example, grilled octopus, pork dumplings and honey-roast pork belly; roast loin of fallow deer with game pie, celeriac purée and game chips; and pistachio and raspberry macarons with pistachio ice cream. A spacious garden adds to its charm.
