Character pub in lovely village location

At a glance

Bar menu
Dog friendly

This stunning-looking golden-stone pub commands the centre of a tiny village above the Avon Valley just outside Bath. A log-burner, slab flooring and country prints welcome you to the airy bar; the cosy dining room is pleasingly cottagey in character. The cuisine is proudly British and seasonal, and each meal has a suggested beer to accompany. There's an on-site smokehouse, while the veg and herbs come from the grounds. Consider a starter of cold home-smoked salmon with horseradish, sweet pickled cucumber and seaweed; leaving room for mains like Wiltshire lamb shoulder and cutlet, toasted almonds, Jersey Royals and Wye Valley asparagus. The lavender-scented secluded garden is a summer delight.
