This imposing coaching inn has served the village for over 400 years, and retains much period feel in the well-beamed old bar. In World War 2, American NCOs made it their mess-room; today’s regulars and visitors may enjoy the home-prepared food that majors on ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The intriguing sounding ‘Share a piggy’ (for a minimum of two) is a board of pork belly, black pudding and crispy pork shoulder served with crispy potatoes, seasonal veg and cider gravy; or you could chose the daily changing ‘Ultimate Pie’, a burger or home-made stone-baked pizza. There are beer festivals each May and September and a cider festival is held in July.
