This Wadworth-owned, 16th-century pub stands on the village green, itself distanced from traffic, with views of pretty houses, the church and a Celtic cross. It couldn't wish for a better location, so outdoor drinking and eating are a particular pleasure, although there will be times when the two open fires inside beckon. Home-prepared food includes sandwiches and baguettes; chicken liver pâté; roast chicken breast with sage and onion stuffing; and leek, cheddar and mustard tart. Landlords Michael and Joanne Hehir hold a beer festival over the first weekend in June, while local enthusiasts periodically relive wartime days when an American parachute regiment was billeted locally.
