Slap bang on the high street in Royal Wootton Bassett, this former coaching inn is a contemporary establishment with traditional bar serving a range of Arkell's ales and an oak-panelled dining room showcasing local produce. Meat from named local farms and south coast fish, delivered daily, are cooked on a charcoal grill that is the workhorse of the kitchen. Other options might be crispy bacon salad with black pudding, poached egg and blue cheese; salmon fillet with shellfish bisque, lobster tortellini, balsamic caviar and black truffle; or Stilton and pine nut arancini with charred baby leek, butternut squash and pomegranate vinaigrette.
