An inn has stood by Ripponden’s old bridge, and even earlier ford, since at least 1307. The lower bar is of cruck-frame construction, and the top bar retains its wattle and daub walls, partly later encased in stone. In addition to Timothy Taylor real ales, including Ram Tam and two guests, 14 wines are offered by the glass. Expect main courses like sweet potato, asparagus and spinach Malaysian curry; wild mushroom, pea and sweet pepper risotto; or poached haddock fillet with prawns in creamy cheese sauce. Apparently the salad buffet has been pleasing punters since 1963. Seating outside overlooks the River Ryburn. Booking for meals is recommended.
