A warm welcome awaits you at this 17th-century inn, idyllically situated beside the brook where withies were once cut for fencing, hence the village’s name, Withybrook. The Pheasant is a popular free house, cosy and full of character with an inglenook fireplace, farm implements and horse-racing photographs on display. The chalkboard flags up specials, complementing a wealth of food choices from the extensive main menu. Take your pick from a range of steak and chicken grills (including fillet, sirloin and T-bone steaks; chicken Kiev, and Cajun chicken); a half roast duck with orange or plum sauce; and home-cooked lamb shank with root vegetables. Outside, the patio area is perfect for a leisurely lunch or a thirst-quenching pint of real ale after a walk in the beautiful countryside.
