Sixteenth-century pub in great walking country

At a glance

Bar menu

Popular with walkers exploring the Devil’s Punchbowl and Thursley Common, this lovely pub can be found in the little village of Thursley. It’s been sustaining travellers and locals since the 16th century, and was rescued from five years’ closure in 2004 by a group of villagers who didn’t want to lose the heart of their community. It has a fantastic garden and patio for alfresco dining, and menus might feature heirloom tomato bruschetta; or chicken liver parfait followed by pan-fried calves’ liver with smoked bacon; sausage and mash; or butternut squash risotto with gorgonzola. A good choice of sandwiches is also available.
