A classy village dining-pub

At a glance

Bar menu
Beer festival
Dog friendly

This grand old tile-hung pub stands at the heart of what claims to be England's largest village. While necessarily updating the interior, owners Peach Pubs worked hard to retain its period appeal, particularly the original brick inglenook in the bar, where you can enjoy Surrey-brewed Shere Drop (named after a nearby village) and Firebird Heritage XX real ales. With the emphasis firmly on top-notch seasonal produce, and meat supplied a very reliable butcher, expect Cornish lamb rump; dry-aged steaks from British grass-fed cattle; fillet of Loch Duart salmon; breast of chicken with crispy bread pudding; and pappardelle of sprouting broccoli, pine nuts, sun-dried tomato and Wensleydale Blue cheese.
