Hidden gems once discovered can lose their sparkle, but not this super little Surrey Hills pub, popular with cyclists and walkers. Improvements, courtesy of the landlord's wife, have made the dining room and bar more comfortable; outside is a pretty garden and terrace. Monthly-changing menus offer contemporary and traditional favourites, such as pan-roasted duck breast with celeriac and potato purée, cavolo nero, cherry jus; salmon fillet with fennel and aubergine purée, herb oil; and Cumberland sausages with spring onion mash. The National Trust's Polesden Lacey and the Royal Horticultural Society's Wisley Gardens are nearby.
