Overlooking the village green and cricket pitch, this tile-hung Surrey pub is friendly and welcoming. The low-beamed bar, complete with flagstone floor and huge brass fireplace, is delightfully traditional, and French doors lead to a sheltered, paved terrace. Start with Middle White pork and pistachio terrine with toast and chutney; or pigeon pastrami and buttered kale on toasted rye bread, before a main of chargrilled hogget chops, Lyonnaise potatoes and kale; pot-roasted guinea fowl, chestnut mushrooms, fine beans, baby potatoes and smoked bacon sauce; or herb-baked hake with roasted fennel, white bean and chervil sauce.
