This long-established watering-hole in a pretty White Peak village continues to offer the most hospitable, time-honoured welcome to all; the landlord also says that muddy boots (a rack is provided) and friendly dogs are ok by him. To set the scene – flagged floors, beams and open fire within, and tables outside that promise views to tree-studded limestone pastures. Tracks wind down into the amazing gorge of the River Manifold. No surprise then that the pub is popular with ramblers happy to sample beers from local producers like Whim, Storm and Wincle. Filling pub stalwarts populate the menu here; fish with local ale batter and chips; or roast belly pork, black puddding and apple cider sauce.
