The Strode Arms is a stone-built 18th-century inn, packed with character – there’s an open fire in winter and a sun-trap front terrace in the warmer months. The pub sits in the centre of the village, opposite the duck pond handy for the market towns of Frome and Shepton Mallet. Expect classics like prawn cocktail and rib-eye steaks alongside home-smoked sliced duck with warm noodle salad, and pot-roasted monkfish and Parma ham with Lyonnaise potatoes and wilted spinach; or pan-fried medallion of beef with grain mustard mash, caramelised shallots and red wine sauce.
