Reputedly one of the oldest inns on Exmoor, this 13th-century free house stands at the foot of Porlock's notorious hill, where Exmoor tumbles into the sea. In the past it’s attracted the sinister attentions of Nelson's press gang, but now its thatched roof and traditional interior provide a more welcoming atmosphere. Regularly changing menus include an appealing selection of hot and cold baguettes, sandwiches, ciabattas, and hot dishes from creamy haddock, leek and pea risotto, to Exmoor venison casserole. There's also a beer garden and children's play area.
